Ljubljana, the capital, is a charming city filled with quirky cafés, picturesque streets, and the cutest boutiques to explore. Additionally, just a short drive away is iconic Lake Bled, with its fairy-tale island and castle perched above the water. Overall, it’s the perfect place to enjoy this European charm in peace before the rest of the world catches on!
Best Places to Stay in Ljubljana
I would recommend staying by the river in the Old Town of Ljubljana for the most atmospheric stay on a first time visit. Why? Because it puts you right in the heart of the city, where you can easily explore everything on foot. The charming streets, lined with colorful buildings, cafés, and local shops, are all just steps away. Also, the iconic Ljubljanica River adds a special touch to the atmosphere. Imagine yourself strolling along the water, relaxing at a riverside café, or taking in the views of the castle above. Additionally, being in the Old Town means you’re close to all the major sights, yet you’ll still get to experience the laid-back, local side of Ljubljana. Barbo Palace
The Barbo Palace is in a great location about a block away from the river and a block away from Congress Square. These charmingly renovated apartments in an antique building are close to the Old Town but still quiet at night. The apartments have kitchenettes for convenience and there is a grocery store nearby. All in all, these cute apartments will make you feel like you’re staying with a friend rather than at a hotel.

The Hotel Heritage is a lovely historic hotel kitty corner from the Barbo Palace. It has a fantastic location for exploring the Old Town. Although it is just a block away from the river, it is still quiet enough to have a good nights rest. To stay right on the river, look for a room at The Hotel Ljubljana. Some rooms have river views while others have castle views. Although some rooms are a bit tight, the central location makes up for it.
Lesar Hotel Angel
The Lesar Hotel Angel is a short walk from the river on a charming square in the Old Town. It is great for families. Not only are the rooms more spacious but there is also a cute little garden to relax after a day of sightseeing. However, there is no elevator, so beware of that if stairs are a problem.
