The Best Chocolate to Bring Home from Switzerland
Looking for the best chocolate you can only find in Switzerland? I’ll be sharing some favorites, including chocolates you can find in the supermarkets!
When you hear Switzerland, you think chocolate. There are artisanal chocolate shops in each of the big cities in Switzerland, as well as the more well-known national favorites. And don’t sleep on the supermarket chocolate. Even the supermarket chocolate is delicious!
My husband is a chocolate fiend, so hitting up all the chocolate stores is a must. On our most recent trip, we did our chocolate scavenger hunt in Basel since it was our last stop. In our previous trip, our chocolate scavenger hunt took place in Lausanne. Look no further for the best chocolates to bring home that are unique to Switzerland.
Basel Artisanal Chocolate Shops
Confiserie Schiesser
They are famous for their truffles filled with liquor, but also have nonalcoholic truffles.
Confiserie Brandli
Chocolate almonds and Basler Dybli are the specialties here, but they also had a tempting case filled with truffles.
Xocolatl
Sources the best ethical chocolate bars from around the world, also makes their own uniquely flavored chocolate bars.
Confiserie Graf
More truffles! Closed Sundays and Mondays so we were not able to visit.
Lucerne Artisanal Chocolate Shop
Max Chocolatier
Truffles made with seasonal flavors. Also has a shop in Zurich.
Lausanne Artisanal Chocolate Shops
La Chocolatiere
We went for the truffles thinking they would last longer, but they are also known for their chocolate eggs and praline strips.
Blondel
Known for their chocolate dipped fruits and chocolate bars, but also has a tasty selection of truffles and pralines.
L’Espace Chocolat
Chocolate bars are the star here, although they do have truffles and pralines as well.
Noz Chocolatier
Specialties here are the prune brandy truffles and the chocolate cigars, and they also have truffles filled with different alcohols and a variety of ganaches. These tasty treats did not make it home – it was too easy to keep sneaking just one more!
Olivier Fuchs
We didn’t make it here, but this shop is known for their chocolate bars.
Nationwide Chocolate Shops
We saw branches of these shops in every town that we visited in Switzerland. Some of these brands are now available in the US. But it seems like they keep the really good stuff local in Switzerland rather than exporting it, so they could still be worth checking out!
Laderach
Some larger US cities have branches of Laderach stores in the big malls. I have not tried the Swiss version, but it’s possible that the Swiss version is more delicious!
Sprungli
Known for their macarons, but have fresh truffles as well.
Lindt
Yes, we have Lindt in the US. But the Swiss version is tastier for some reason! Plus the Lindt factory is located near Zurich which you can tour (with samples!).
Confiserie Bachmann
Picked up some whiskey truffles here, but they had other types of alcohol-filled truffles as well.
Swiss Supermarket Chocolate
These chocolates can be found at larger Coop markets. You can search the Coop website to check if the store near you carries each of these delicious treats to avoid disappointment.
Gottlieber Huppen
These wafer rolls filled with praline, mocha, gianduja, or coconut are heavenly. The Lackerli Huus brand also makes a version they call flutes de bale.
Cailler Femina
These are an assortment of soft milk chocolate pralines. There is also a dark chocolate version.
Ovomaltine Chocolate
These bars are made of pressed ovomaltine covered with chocolate coating. It’s nostalgic for anybody that traveled to Hong Kong as a child and drank ovaltine at restaurants.
Kagi Fret
These are crispy wafers with mousse filling, and of course it is covered in chocolate. There are varieties with milk and dark chocolate and different flavors of mousse filling.
If that chocolate craving is hitting big time, check out our Switzerland itinerary to plan your next trip to try these delicious chocolates for yourself!
